The Year Seventy of the Hijrah

وَفي سنة سبعين شَخَصَ مُصْعَبٌ إِلَى مَكَّةَ، فِي قَوْلِ بَعْضِهِمْ، وَمَعَهُ أَمْوَالٌ كَثِيرَةٌ فَقَسَمَهَا فِي قَوْمِهِ وَغَيْرِهِمْ، وَقَدِمَ بِدَوَابَّ كَثِيرَةٍ وَظَهْرٍ وَأَثْقَالٍ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ، وَجُبَيْرِ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُطِيعٍ مَالًا كَثِيرًا، وَنَحَرَ بُدْنًا كَثِيرَةً. عِنْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ أَلْفَ بَدَنَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ شَاةٍ، وَأَغْنَى سَاكِنِي مَكَّةَ ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى الْعِرَاقِ، وَأَنْعَمَ وَأَطْلَقَ لِجَمَاعَةٍ مِنْ رُؤَسَاءِ النَّاسِ بِالْحِجَازِ أَمْوَالًا كَثِيرَةً.

Translation

✧ And in the year seventy, Muṣʿab went to Makkah, according to the statement of some of them, and with him were abundant funds, and he distributed them among his people and others. And he arrived with many riding beasts, mounts, and baggage. Then he sent to ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṣafwān, Jubayr b. Shaybah, and ʿAbd Allāh b. Muṭīʿ a great amount of money, and he slaughtered many sacrificial camels at the Kaʿbah: one thousand camels and twenty thousand sheep, and he enriched the inhabitants of Makkah. Then he returned to Iraq, and he bestowed and granted to a group of the chiefs of the people in the Hijaz abundant funds.
