The story of Moses the one who spoke with Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)

Translation

✧ [Among the events] the death of Aaron during the time of Moses (peace be upon them both) Al-Suddī reported from his teachers that Allah Almighty revealed to Moses: “I am going to take Aaron in death, so bring him to such-and-such a mountain.” Moses and Aaron set out toward the mountain, and there they found a tree the like of which had never been seen, and they found a built house, and inside it a bed with furnishings, and in it a pleasant fragrance. When Aaron looked at that mountain, the house, and what was in it, he was amazed and said: “O Moses, I would love to sleep on this bed.” Moses said to him: “Then sleep on it.” He said: “I fear that the owner of this house may come and be angry with me.” Moses said to him: “Do not be afraid; I will take care of the owner of this house for you. Sleep.” He said: “O Moses, sleep with me.” So they slept, and death seized Aaron. When he was taken, that house was raised up, that tree went away, and the bed was raised up with him to heaven. When Moses returned to the Children of Israel without Aaron, they said: “Moses has killed Aaron and envied him because of the Children of Israel’s love for him.” Aaron had been gentler and softer with them than Moses, who had some harshness toward them. When that reached him, he said to them: “Woe to you! Do you think I would kill my brother?!” When they persisted against him, he stood and prayed two rakʿahs, then supplicated to Allah, and the bed descended until they saw it from heaven and earth, and they believed him. ʿAmr b. Maymūn said: Moses and Aaron died in the wilderness. Aaron died before Moses. They had gone out in the wilderness to some caves, and he died, so Moses buried him and returned to the Children of Israel. They said: “What happened to Aaron?” He said: “He died.” They said: “Rather, you killed him because of our love for him.” Moses complained of what he had encountered from the Children of Israel, and Allah revealed to him: “Take them to the place of his grave, for I will raise him up so that he may tell them that he died a natural death.” So he took them to Aaron’s grave and called out: “O Aaron,” and he came out of his grave shaking his head. He said: “Did I kill you?” He said: “No, by Allah, but I died.” He said: “Then return to your resting place.” Al-Ḥasan said: Aaron died at the age of one hundred and eighteen years, three years before Moses. In the Torah: Aaron died at the age of one hundred and twenty years, and his death occurred in the wilderness.
