The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān

وفي سَنَةُ خَمْسٍ وَخَمْسِينَ كان مَشْتَى سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَوْفٍ الْأَزْدِيِّ بِأَرْضِ الرُّومِ  فِي قَوْلِ الْوَاقِدِيِّ. وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ: بَلِ الَّذِي شَتَّى هُنَاكَ عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحْرِزٍ. وَقِيلَ: بَلْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ. وَقِيلَ: بَلْ مَالِكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ.

Translation

✧ In the year fifty-five there was the winter expedition of Sufyān b. ʿAwf al-Azdī in the land of the Romans, according to the statement of al-Wāqidī. Others said: Rather, the one who wintered there was ʿAmr b. Muḥriz. It was also said: Rather, ʿAbd Allāh b. Qays al-Fazārī. It was also said: Rather, Mālik b. ʿAbd Allāh.
