The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
خُرُوجِ زِيَادِ بْنِ خِرَاشٍ الْعِجْلِيِّ وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ خَرَجَ زِيَادُ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ الْعِجْلِيُّ فِي ثَلَاثِمِائَةِ فَارِسٍ فَأَتَى أَرْضَ مَسْكِنَ مِنَ السَّوَادِ، فَسَيَّرَ إِلَيْهِ زِيَادٌ خَيْلًا عَلَيْهَا سَعْدُ بْنُ حُذَيْفَةَ أَوْ غَيْرُهُ، فَقَتَلُوهُمْ وَقَدْ صَارُوا إِلَى مَاهٍ. خُرُوجِ مُعَاذٍ الطَّائِيِّ وَخَرَجَ عَلَى زِيَادٍ أَيْضًا رَجُلٌ مِنْ طَيِّئٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُعَاذٌ، فَأَتَى نَهْرَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أُمِّ الْحَكَمِ فِي ثَلَاثِينَ رَجُلًا هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ، فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ زِيَادٌ مَنْ قَتَلَهُ وَأَصْحَابَهُ، ( وَقِيلَ: بَلْ حَلَّ لِوَاءَهُ وَاسْتَأْمَنَ ). وَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ أَصْحَابُ نَهْرِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ.
Translation
✧ The Khurūj (Rebellion) of Ziyād b. Khirāsh al-ʿIjlī In this year, Ziyād b. Khirāsh al-ʿIjlī rebelled with three hundred horsemen and came to the land of Maskan in the Sawād. Ziyād sent against him cavalry under the command of Saʿd b. Ḥudhayfah or someone else, and they killed them, after they had reached Māh. The Khurūj (Rebellion) of Muʿādh al-Ṭāʾī Also in this year, a man from Ṭayyiʾ called Muʿādh rebelled against Ziyād, and he came to the canal of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Umm al-Ḥakam with thirty men. Ziyād sent someone who killed him and his companions. (It is also said: rather, he lowered his banner and sought amnesty.) They are called the people of the canal of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.
