The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سَنَةُ تِسْعٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ فِيهَا كَانَ مَشْتَى مَالِكِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ بِأَرْضِ الرُّومِ. وَفِيهَا كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ جَرَبَّةَ وَشَتَا بِهَا، وَفُتِحَتْ عَلَى يَدِهِ، وَأَصَابَ فِيهَا شَيْئًا كَثِيرًا وَفِيهَا كَانَتْ صَائِفَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كُرْزٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ. وَفِيهَا كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ شَجَرَةَ الرُّهَاوِيِّ فِي الْبَحْرِ فَشَتَا بِأَهْلِ الشَّامِ. وَفِيهَا كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ نَافِعٍ الْبَحْرَ فَشَتَا بِأَهْلِ مِصْرَ. وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْعَاصِ . وَكَانَ الْعُمَّالُ فِيهَا هُمُ الْعُمَّالُ فِي الَّتِي قَبْلَهَا.
Translation
✧ Then the year forty-nine (49 AH) began. In it was the winter expedition of Mālik b. Hubayrah in the land of the Romans. In it was the campaign of Faḍālah b. ʿUbayd against Jarabbah, and he wintered there, and it was conquered at his hand, and he obtained in it much spoil. In it was the summer expedition of ʿAbd Allāh b. Kurz al-Bajalī. In it was the campaign of Yazīd b. Shajarah al-Ruhāwī at sea, and he wintered with the people of Syria. In it was the campaign of ʿUqbah b. Nāfiʿ at sea, and he wintered with the people of Egypt. The people were led in ḥajj in this year by Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ. The governors in it were the same governors as in the preceding year.
