The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
وَفي سنة تسع وأربعين عَزَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَوَلَّى عَلَيْهَا سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْعَاصِ وَكَانَتْ وِلَايَةُ مَرْوَانَ كُلُّهَا بِالْمَدِينَةِ لِمُعَاوِيَةَ ثَمَانِيَ سِنِينَ وَشَهْرَيْنِ، وَكَانَ عَلَى قَضَاءِ الْمَدِينَةِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ، فَعَزَلَهُ سَعِيدٌ حِينَ وَلِيَ، وَاسْتَقْضَى أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ.
Translation
✧ In the year forty-nine, Muʿāwiyah dismissed Marwān b. al-Ḥakam from Madinah and appointed Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ over it. Marwān's entire tenure in Madinah on behalf of Muʿāwiyah was eight years and two months. The judge of Madinah at that time was ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥārith b. Nawfal, and Saʿīd dismissed him when he took office and appointed Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān as judge.
