The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
وفي سَنَةُ ثَمَانٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ كَانَ مَشْتَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْقَيْنِيِّ بِأَنْطَاكِيَةَ. وَصَائِفَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ الْفَزَارِيِّ. وَغَزْوَةُ مَالِكِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ السَّكُونِيِّ الْبَحْرَ. وَغَزْوَةُ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ بِأَهْلِ مِصْرَ الْبَحْرَ وَبِأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ. وَفِيهَا اسْتَعْمَلَ زِيَادٌ غَالِبَ بْنَ فَضَالَةَ اللَّيْثِيَّ عَلَى خُرَاسَانَ، وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ، وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ مَرْوَانُ وَهُوَ يَتَوَقَّعُ الْعَزْلَ لِمُوجِدَةٍ كَانَتْ مِنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَيْهِ، وَارْتَجَعَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مِنْهُ فَدَكَ وَكَانَ وَهَبْهَا لَهُ.
Translation
✧ In the year forty-eight The winter expedition of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Qaynī was at Anṭākiyah. The summer expedition was that of ʿAbd Allāh b. Qays al-Fazārī. The naval raid was that of Mālik b. Hubayrah al-Sakūnī. And the naval raid of ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir al-Juhanī was with the people of Miṣr and the people of al-Madīnah. In it, Ziyād appointed Ghālib b. Faḍālah al-Laythī over Khurāsān; he was a Companion. Marwān led the pilgrimage while anticipating dismissal due to an anger Muʿāwiyah had against him. Muʿāwiyah took back Fadak from him, which he had granted to him.
