The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
غَزْوِ الْمُهَلَّبِ السِّنْدَ وَفي سنة أربع وأربعين غَزَا الْمُهَلَّبُ بْنُ أَبِي صُفْرَةَ ثَغْرَ السِّنْدِ فَأَتَى بَنَّةَ وَالْأَهْوَازَ، وَهُمَا بَيْنَ الْمُلْتَانِ وَكَابُلَ، فَلَقِيَهُ الْعَدُوُّ وَقَاتَلَهُ، وَلَقِيَ الْمُهَلَّبَ بِبِلَادِ الْقِيقَانِ ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ فَارِسًا مِنَ التُّرْكِ فَقَاتَلُوهُ فَقُتِلُوا جَمِيعًا، فَقَالَ الْمُهَلَّبُ: مَا جُعِلَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَعَاجِمُ أَوْلَى بِالتَّشْمِيرِ مِنَّا ! فَحَذَفَ الْخَيْلَ، وَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ حَذَفَهَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَفِي يَوْمِ بَنَّةَ يَقُولُ الْأَزْدِيُّ: أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ الْأَزْدَ لَيْلَةَ بُيِّتُوا بِبَنَّةَ كَانُوا خَيْرَ جَيْشِ الْمُهَلَّبِ ؟
Translation
✧ The military expedition of al-Muhallab to al-Sind In the year forty-four, al-Muhallab b. Abī Ṣufrah raided the frontier of al-Sind. He came to Bannah and al-Ahwāz, which lie between al-Multān and Kābul. The enemy met him and fought him. Eighteen horsemen of the Turks met al-Muhallab in the lands of al-Qīqān and fought him, and they were all killed. Al-Muhallab said: Are these non-Arabs more entitled to exertion than us? So he docked the horses' tails, and he was the first of the Muslims to dock them. On the day of Bannah, al-Azdī said: Do you not see that al-Azd, on the night they were ambushed at Bannah, were the best army of al-Muhallab?
