The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
وفي سنة ثنتين وأربعين وَلَّى مُعَاوِيَةُ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ نِيَابَةَ الْمَدِينَةِ، وَعَلَى مَكَّةَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْعَاصِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ، وَعَلَى الْكُوفَةِ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ، وَعَلَى قَضَائِهَا شُرَيْحٌ الْقَاضِي، وَعَلَى الْبَصْرَةِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، وَعَلَى خُرَاسَانَ قَيْسُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ مِنْ قِبَلِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ وَاسْتَقْضَى مَرْوَانُ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ، وَعَلَى قَضَاءِ الْبَصْرَةِ عُمَيْرَةُ بْنُ يَثْرِبِيٍّ.
Translation
✧ In the year forty-two, Muʿāwiyah appointed Marwān b. al-Ḥakam as deputy over Madinah, and over Makkah Khālid b. al-ʿĀṣ b. Hishām, and over al-Kūfah al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah, and over its judiciary Shurayḥ the judge, and over al-Baṣrah ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿĀmir, and over Khurāsān Qays b. al-Haytham on behalf of ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿĀmir. Marwān appointed ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥārith as judge over Madinah, and over the judiciary of al-Baṣrah ʿUmayrah b. Yathribī.
