The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
مولد علي بن عبد الله بن عباس قِيلَ: وَفِي سنة إحدى وأربعين وُلِدَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَقِيلَ: وُلِدَ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعِينَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُقْتَلَ عَلِيٌّ، وَالْأَوَّلُ أَصَحُّ، وَبِاسِمِ عَلِيٍّ سَمَّاهُ، وَقَالَ: سَمَّيْتُهُ بِاسْمِ أَحَبِّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ.
Translation
✧ The birth of ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās It was said: In the year forty-one, ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās was born. It was also said: He was born in the year forty, before ʿAlī was killed. The former is more correct. He named him ʿAlī, and said: "I named him after the name of the most beloved of people to me."
