Translation

✧ Section (on those who died in this year) Among those whom our shaykh Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Dhahabī mentioned as having died in this year—I mean the year thirty—was Ubayy b. Kaʿb, according to what al-Wāqidī deemed sound. Jabbār b. Ṣakhr b. Umayya b. Khansāʾ, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī, of the ʿAqaba pledge and Badr, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent him to Khaybar as an assessor of dates, and he died at the age of sixty. Ḥāṭib b. Abī Baltaʿa ʿAmr b. ʿUmayr al-Lakhmī. An ally of Banū Asad b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, he witnessed Badr and what came after it, and he was the one who had written to the polytheists informing them of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ resolve to conquer Makkah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ excused him for the excuse he offered. Then he sent him afterwards with a message to al-Muqawqis, king of Alexandria. Al-Ṭufayl b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Muṭṭalib, brother of ʿUbayda and Ḥuṣayn, witnessed Badr. Saʿīd b. ʿUmayr said: He died in this year. ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb b. ʿUmar al-Māzinī, Abū al-Ḥārith—and it is said: Abū Yaḥyā—al-Anṣārī. He witnessed Badr and was in charge of the khums on that day. ʿAbd Allāh b. Maẓʿūn, brother of ʿUthmān b. Maẓʿūn. He emigrated to Abyssinia and witnessed Badr. ʿIyāḍ b. Zuhayr b. Abī Shaddād b. Rabīʿa b. Hilāl, Abū Saʿd al-Qurashī al-Fihrī. He witnessed Badr and what came after it. Masʿūd b. Rabīʿa—and it is said: Ibn al-Rabīʿ. Abū ʿAmr al-Qārī. He witnessed Badr and what came after it, and died at over sixty years of age. Maʿmar b. Abī Sarḥ b. Rabīʿa b. Hilāl al-Qurashī, Abū Saʿd al-Fihrī. It is said his name was ʿAmr. He was of Badr, an early companion. Abū Usayd Mālik b. Rabīʿa. Al-Fallās said: He died in this year. But the sounder view is that he died in the year forty, and it is said: the year sixty—but Allah knows best. Aws b. Thābit b. al-Mundhir b. Ḥarām. Brother of Ḥassān, and he was the father of Shaddād b. Aws: Aws witnessed the ʿAqaba with the seventy, and Badr and all the battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Aws b. Khawlī b. ʿAbd Allāh: He witnessed Badr and all the battles, and he was present at the time of washing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he died during the caliphate of ʿUthmān ؓ.
