The Caliphate of ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān

فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: زَادَ عُثْمَانُ النِّدَاءَ الثَّالِثَ عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ ، وَهِيَ دَارٌ لَهُ بَنَاهَا فِي عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ؓ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي خِلَافَتِهِ وَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ أَمَرَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بِالْأَذَانِ الثَّالِثِ، فَأُذِّنَ بِهِ عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ، فَثَبَتَ الْأَمْرُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ. فَإِنْ قِيلَ: كَيْفَ صَارَ ثَلَاثًا؟ قُلْنَا: بِالْإِقَامَةِ. وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: هَرَبَ يَزْدَجِرْدُ مِنْ فَارِسَ إِلَى خُرَاسَانَ فِي قَوْلِ بَعْضِ الرُّوَاةِ. قَالَ: وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَامِرٍ خَرَجَ إِلَى فَارِسَ، فَهَرَبَ يَزْدَجِرْدُ، فَوَجَّهَ ابْنُ عَامِرٍ فِي أَثَرِهِ مَنْ تَبِعَهُ إِلَى كِرْمَانَ، فَهَرَبَ إِلَى خُرَاسَانَ. وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: حَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ عُثْمَانُ ؓ.

Translation

✧ In this year: ʿUthmān added the third call to prayer on al-Zawrāʾ, which was a house of his that he built during the time of the Prophet ﷺ and Abū Bakr and ʿUmar ؓ. When it was during his caliphate and the people became numerous, ʿUthmān ؓ commanded on Friday the third call to prayer, so it was called on al-Zawrāʾ, and the matter became established upon that. If it is said: How did it become three? We say: With the iqāmah. In this year: Yazdajird fled from Fārs to Khurāsān according to the statement of some of the narrators. He said: That is because Ibn ʿĀmir went out to Fārs, so Yazdajird fled, and Ibn ʿĀmir sent in his pursuit those who followed him to Kirmān, so he fled to Khurāsān. In this year: ʿUthmān ؓ led the people in the pilgrimage.
