The Caliphate of ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān
[ الْوَفَيَاتُ ] وَفِيهَا مَاتَ أَبُو ذُؤَيْبٍ الْهُذَلِيُّ الشَّاعِرُ بِمِصْرَ مُنْصَرِفًا مِنْ إِفْرِيقِيَّةَ، وَقِيلَ: بَلْ مَاتَ بِطَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ فِي الْبَادِيَةِ، وَقِيلَ: مَاتَ بِبِلَادِ الرُّومِ، وَكُلُّهُمْ قَالُوا: مَاتَ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُثْمَانَ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ أَبُو رِمْثَةَ الْبَلَوِيُّ بِإِفْرِيقِيَّةَ، لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَتْ حَفْصَةُ بِنْتُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَقِيلَ: مَاتَتْ سَنَةَ إِحْدَى وَأَرْبَعِينَ، وَقِيلَ: سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ كَعْبِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَبْذُولٍ، أَبُو الْحَارِثِ . شَهِدَ بَدْرًا، وَكَانَ عَامِلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمَغَانِمِ، وَشَهِدَ الْمَشَاهِدَ كُلَّهَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ.
Translation
✧ [Deaths] In this year died Abū Dhuʾayb al-Hudhalī, the poet, in Egypt, returning from Ifrīqiyyah; and it is said: rather he died on the road to Makkah in the desert; and it is said: he died in the lands of the Romans; and all of them said: he died during the caliphate of ʿUthmān. In this year died Abū Rimthah al-Balawī in Ifrīqiyyah; he had companionship [with the Prophet]. In this year died Ḥafṣah bt. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ; and it is said: she died in the year forty-one; and it is said: the year forty-five. And in this year died ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb b. ʿAmr b. ʿAwf b. Mabdhūl, Abū al-Ḥārith. He witnessed Badr, and he was the agent of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ over the spoils, and he witnessed all the expeditions with the Prophet ﷺ.
