The Caliphate of ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān
ذكر عِدَّةِ حَوَادِثَ حَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ عُثْمَانُ. وَفِيهَا كَانَ فَتْحُ إِصْطَخْرَ الثَّانِي عَلَى يَدِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ. وَفِيهَا غَزَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ قِنَّسْرِينَ. قَالَ ابْنُ جَرِيرٍ: قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ غَزَا مُعَاوِيَةُ قُبْرُسَ. وَقَالَ الْوَاقِدِيُّ: كَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَمَانٍ وَعِشْرِينَ. وَقَالَ أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ: غَزَاهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ. فَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Translation
✧ Mention of several events ʿUthmān led the people in the pilgrimage this year. In it was the second conquest of Iṣṭakhr at the hand of ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ. In it Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān raided Qinnasrīn. Ibn Jarīr said: Some of them said: In this year Muʿāwiyah raided Cyprus. Al-Wāqidī said: That was in the year twenty-eight. Abū Maʿshar said: Muʿāwiyah raided it in the year thirty-three. And Allah knows best.
