The caliphate of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb
تحَوَّيلَ عُمَرُ الْمَقَامَ إِلَى مَوْضِعِهِ الْيَوْمَ وَكَانَ مُلْصَقًا بِالْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ. قَالَ الْوَاقِدِيُّ، وَغَيْرُهُ: وَفِي سَّنَةِ ثماني عشرة فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ مِنْهَا حَوَّلَ عُمَرُ الْمَقَامَ، وَكَانَ مُلْصَقًا بِجِدَارِ الْكَعْبَةِ، فَأَخَّرَهُ إِلَى حَيْثُ هُوَ الْآنَ؛ لِئَلَّا يُشَوِّشَ الْمُصَلُّونَ عِنْدَهُ عَلَى الطَّائِفِينَ.
Translation
✧ ʿUmar moved the Maqām to its present location. Before that it had been attached to the House. Al-Wāqidī and others said: In the year eighteen, in Dhū al-Ḥijjah of it, ʿUmar moved the Maqām. It had been attached to the wall of the Kaʿbah, so he moved it back to where it is now, so that those praying at it would not disturb those performing ṭawāf.
