The caliphate of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb
وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ، أَعْنِي سَنَةَ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ حَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ، وَكَانَ عَلَى مَكَّةَ عَتَّابُ بْنُ أُسَيْدٍ، وَعَلَى الْيَمَنِ يَعْلَى بْنُ مُنَبِّهٍ، وَعَلَى الْكُوفَةِ سَعْدٌ، وَعَلَى الشَّامِ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ، وَعَلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، وَقِيلَ: بَلِ الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ، وَعَلَى عُمَانَ حُذَيْفَةُ بْنُ مِحْصَنٍ.
Translation
✧ In this year, that is, the year fourteen, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ led the people in the pilgrimage. Over Makkah was ʿAttāb b. Usayd; over al-Yaman was Yaʿlā b. Munabbih; over al-Kūfah was Saʿd; over al-Shām was Abū ʿUbaydah b. al-Jarrāḥ; over al-Baḥrayn was ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ — and it was said: rather, al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Ḥaḍramī; and over ʿUmān was Ḥudhayfah b. Miḥṣan.
