The caliphate of Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq ᴿᴬ

Translation

✧ As for the account of al-Fujāʾah al-Sulamī—whose name was Iyās b. ʿAbd Yālīl—he came to Abū Bakr and said to him: “Help me with weapons; I will fight the people of apostasy with them.” So he gave him weapons and appointed him to a command. But he turned against the Muslims and went out until he encamped at al-Jiwāʾ. He sent Nukhbah b. Abī al-Maythāʾ of the Banū al-Sharīd and put him in command over the Muslims, and he launched raids against every Muslim among Sulaym, ʿĀmir, and Hawāzin. This reached Abū Bakr, so he sent to Ṭurayfah b. Ḥājiz and ordered him to gather forces and march against him. He also sent ʿAbd Allāh b. Qays al-Ḥāsiyy as support. They advanced against him and sought him, but he eluded them. Then they met him at al-Jiwāʾ and fought. Nukhbah was killed and al-Fujāʾah fled, but Ṭurayfah caught up with him and took him prisoner. Then he sent him to Abū Bakr. When he arrived, Abū Bakr ordered that a fire be kindled for him in the prayer ground of Madinah, and then he was thrown into it bound hand and foot.
