The messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his correspondence to the kings and the like
إِرْسَالِهِ ﷺ مَالِكَ بْنَ عُقْبَةَ أَوْ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ مَعَ مُعَاذٍ ؓ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ [قَالَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الْبَرِّ: مَالِكُ بْنُ عُقَبَةَ أَوْ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، هَكَذَا جَرَى ذِكْرُهُ عَلَى الشَّكِّ، وَذَكَرَهُ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ فِي الْوُفُودِ مَعَ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَمَالِكِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ وَمَالِكِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ وَأَصْحَابِهِمْ، وَأَنِ اجْمَعُوا مَا عِنْدَكُمْ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ وَالْجِزْيَةِ، وَأَبْلِغُوهَا رُسُلِي، وَأَنَّ أَمِيرَهُمْ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ، فَلَا يَنْقَلِبَنَّ إِلَّا رَاضِيًا ].
Translation
✧ His ﷺ sending Mālik b. ʿUqabah or ʿUqbah b. Mālik with Muʿādh ؓ to Yemen [Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said: “Mālik b. ʿUqabah or ʿUqbah b. Mālik—this is how his mention appears uncertainly. Ibn Isḥāq mentioned him among the delegations with Muʿādh b. Jabal, ʿAbd Allāh b. Zayd, Mālik b. ʿUbādah, Mālik b. ʿUqabah, and their companions, and that you should gather what you have of ṣadaqah and jizyah and deliver it to my messengers, and that their leader is Muʿādh b. Jabal, so let him not return except satisfied.”]
