✧ His sending ﷺ Ubayy b. Kaʿb ؓ to Saʿd Hudhaym Imām Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd, Abū Yaʿlā, Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Ḥibbān, al-Ḥākim, and al-Ḍiyāʾ narrated from Ubayy b. Kaʿb ؓ, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me as a collector of zakāh. I passed by a man, and when he gathered his wealth for me, I found nothing due on it except a bint makhāḍ (a one-year-old she-camel). I said to him: "Give the bint makhāḍ, for it is your zakāh." He said: "That one has no milk and no riding ability. Here is a great, fat she-camel; take her." I said to him: "I will not take what I have not been commanded to take. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is near you. If you wish to go to him and present to him what you presented to me, do so. If he accepts it from you, I will accept it; and if he rejects it, I will reject it." He said: "Then I will do that." He went out with me, taking the she-camel that had been offered to me, until we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: "O Prophet of Allah, your messenger came to me to take the zakāh of my wealth. By Allah, neither the Messenger of Allah ﷺ nor his messenger had ever stood over my wealth before him. I gathered my wealth for him, and he claimed that nothing was due on it except a bint makhāḍ, and that is one with no milk and no riding ability. I offered him a great, young she-camel to take, but he refused me. Here it is, I have brought it to you, O Messenger of Allah; take it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "That which is due from you is as he said. If you voluntarily give something better, Allah will reward you for it, and we will accept it from you." He said: "Here it is, O Messenger of Allah; I have brought it to you, so take it, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered it to be received and supplicated for blessing for him. And Allah, glorified and exalted be He, knows best.
