Translation

✧ Mention of the wording of his talbiyah [ﷺ then]: He ﷺ performed the talbiyah and said: “Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, inna al-ḥamda wa-al-niʿmata laka, wa-al-mulka, lā sharīka lak,” and he raised his voice with the talbiyah until his companions heard it. I say: Al-Bazzār narrated from Anas ؓ who said: The talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was “Labbayka ḥajjan ḥaqqan taʿabbudan wa-riqqan.” Al-Ṭabarānī narrated—with a ḥasan chain—from Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at ʿArafāt, and when he said: “Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk,” he said: “Verily, good is the good of the Hereafter.” According to Imām Aḥmad, al-Nasāʾī, and al-Bayhaqī, from Abū Hurayrah: “The Prophet ﷺ said in his talbiyah: ‘Labbayka ilāha al-ḥaqqi labbayk.’” Al-Ṭabarānī narrated from Khuzaymah b. Thābit ؓ: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his talbiyah, he would ask Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for His forgiveness and His good pleasure, and would seek liberation from the Fire.” He commanded them, by the command of Allah—Exalted is He—to raise their voices with the talbiyah, for it is among the rites of the ḥajj. Jibrīl—upon him be blessings and peace—commanded him “to proclaim the talbiyah aloud.” Imām Aḥmad narrated from al-Sāʾib b. Khallād that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Jibrīl came to me and commanded me to command my companions to raise their voices with the talbiyah,” and he said: “O Muḥammad, be one who raises his voice with the talbiyah and one who sheds blood abundantly.” “Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī and others.” I say: Jibrīl came while the people were raising their voices with this talbiyah that they were proclaiming, and he ﷺ did not alter any of it, and he ﷺ adhered to his own talbiyah. Narrated by Muslim. According to Abū Dāwūd, the people were adding “Dhā al-Maʿārij” and similar words, and the Prophet ﷺ heard them and did not say anything to them. Then he ﷺ gave them the choice, at the time of iḥrām, among the three rites. Then, when they drew near Makkah, he urged those who did not have a sacrificial animal to cancel the ḥajj or the qirān and turn it into an ʿumrah. Then he made that binding upon them at al-Marwah. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, while he was performing his aforementioned talbiyah, and the people with him were adding to it and omitting from it, and he approved of them and did not object to them, and he adhered to his own talbiyah.
