The Expedition of Tabūk
ذِكْرُ نَوْمِهِ ﷺ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَبْلَ وُصُولِهِ إِلَى تَبُوكَ رَوَى الْبَيْهَقِيُّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ؓ قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنْهَا عَلَى لَيْلَةٍ اسْتَرْقَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَسْتَيْقِظْ حَتَّى كَانَتِ الشَّمْسُ قِيدَ رُمْحٍ قَالَ "أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكَ يَا بِلَالُ اكْلَأْ لَنَا الْفَجْرَ" فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ذَهَبَ بِي النَّوْمُ، وَذَهَبَ بِي مِثْلُ الَّذِي ذَهَبَ بِكَ، قَالَ: فَانْتَقَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى، وَسَارَ مُسْرِعًا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ وَلَيْلَتِهِ فَأَصْبَحَ بِتَبُوكَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of his ﷺ sleeping until the sun rose before his arrival at Tabūk Al-Bayhaqī narrated from ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir ؓ who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition of Tabūk. When there remained one night of it, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lay down to sleep and did not wake until the sun was the height of a spear. He said, "Did I not tell you, O Bilāl, to watch for the dawn for us?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, sleep overcame me, and the same thing that overcame you overcame me." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ moved from his stopping place not far away, then he prayed, and he traveled quickly for the remainder of his day and his night, and he arrived at Tabūk in the morning.
