Translation
✧ Poetry of Khadīj on the Day of Ḥunayn Khadīj b. al-ʿAwjāʾ al-Naṣrī said: When we drew near to Ḥunayn and its water, we saw a black mass, of hateful color, dark and mottled; with a compact, greyish herd, which, had they hurled it at the peaks of ʿUzwā, would have turned them level ground. Had the nobles of my people obeyed me, we would not have met that cloud now unveiled; we would not have met the army of the family of Muḥammad ﷺ, eighty thousand strong, reinforced by Khindif.
