The Expedition of Ḥunayn (Hawāzin)
وَقَالَ بُجَيْرُ بْنُ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلْمَى: لَوْلَا الْإِلَهُ وَعَبْدُهُ وَلَّيْتُمْ حِينَ اسْتَخَفَّ الرُّعْبُ كُلَّ جَبَانِ بِالْجَزَعِ يَوْمَ حِيَالَنَا أَقْرَانُنَا وَسَوَابِحُ يُكَبُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ مِنْ بَيْنِ سَاعٍ ثَوْبُهُ فِي كَفِّهِ وَمُقَطِّرٍ بِسَنَابِكَ وَلِبَانِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْرَمَنَا وَأَظْهَرَ دِينَنَا وَأَعَزَّنَا بِعِبَادَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَاللَّهُ أَهْلَكَهُمْ وَفَرَّقَ شَمْلَهُمْ وَأَذَلَّهُمْ بِعِبَادَةِ الشَّيْطَانِ «قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ وَيَرْوِي فِيهَا بَعْضُ الرُّوَاةِ”. إِذْ قَامَ عَمُّ نَبِيِّكُمْ وَوَلِيُّهُ يَدْعُونَ يَا لِكَتِيبَةِ الْإِيمَانِ أَيْنَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ أَجَابُوا رَبَّهُمْ يَوْمَ الْعَرِيضِ وَبَيْعَةِ الرِّضْوَانِ
Translation
✧ Bujayr b. Zuhayr b. Abī Sulmā said: Were it not for God and His servant, you would have turned in flight when terror stirred every coward at the place of panic, on the day when our peers faced us, and swimming steeds tumbled them onto their chins; among them one running, his garment in his hand, and another dripping from hooves and chest. God honored us and made our religion prevail, and strengthened us through worship of the Merciful. God destroyed them and scattered their unity, and humbled them through worship of Satan. Ibn Hishām said: Some transmitters recite in it: When the paternal uncle of your Prophet and his guardian stood, calling: O for the battalion of faith! Where are those who answered their Lord on the day of al-ʿArīḍ and the pledge of al-Riḍwān?
