The Expedition of Khaybar

Translation

✧ His ﷺ moving to the siege of the fortresses of al-Shiqq and their conquest He moved to al-Shiqq, where there were numerous fortresses. The first fortress he began with among them was the fortress of Ubayy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood upon a hill called Sumwān. The people of the fortress fought over it with the fiercest fighting. A man from among them called ʿAzūl came out and challenged to single combat. Al-Ḥubāb b. al-Mundhir went out to him and cut off his right hand from the middle of his forearm; the sword fell from his hand, and the Jew fled back. Al-Ḥubāb pursued him and cut his Achilles tendon. Another of them came out to duel, and a Muslim man rose against him, but the Jew killed him. Then Abū Dujānah advanced upon him and killed him and took his spoils. They held back from dueling, and the Muslims shouted "Allāhu akbar." Then they pressed upon the fortress and entered it, with Abū Dujānah before them. They found in it furnishings, goods, sheep, and food. Those of the fighting men who were in it fled, and they leapt over the walls like gazelles until they reached the fortress of al-Nazār in al-Shiqq, where they fortified themselves most strongly. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions advanced toward them; they exchanged arrows, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shot with his noble hand along with them, until their arrows struck his garments, peace and blessings be upon him. Then he, ﷺ, took a handful of pebbles and threw it at their fortress, and it shook with them until it sank into the ground, and the Muslims seized them by force.
