The Expedition of Khaybar

Translation

✧ The Prophet's ﷺ siege of the fort of al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām ؓ, which later became his allotted share Al-Wāqidī said: When the Jews moved from the fort of Nāʿim and the fort of al-Ṣaʿb b. Muʿādh to the citadel of al-Zubayr – an impregnable fort on a mountain peak – the Messenger of Allah ﷺ besieged them for three days. Then a Jewish man called Ghazzāl came and said: 'O Abū al-Qāsim, will you grant me security so that I may guide you to something by which you can gain relief from the people of al-Naṭāh and then go out against the people of al-Shiqq? For the people of al-Shiqq have already perished from fear of you.' He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him security for his family and property. The Jew said to him: 'Even if you were to remain besieging them for a month, they would not care about you. They have underground water channels through which they go out at night and drink, then return to their citadel.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that their water channels be cut off. They then came out and fought the fiercest fighting. On that day a number of Muslims were killed, and ten of the Jews were wounded. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered it, and it was the last of the forts of al-Naṭāh, and he moved on to al-Shiqq.
