The Treaty of al-Hudaybiyah
[ أَهْدَى الرَّسُولُ جَمَلًا فِيهِ بَرَّةٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ] وَشَرَدَ جَمَلُ أَبِي جَهْلٍ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ وَهُوَ يَرْعَى وَقَدْ قَلَّدَ وَأَشْعَرَ. وَكَانَ نَجِيبًا مَهْرِيًّا فِي رَأْسِهِ بَرَّةٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ، أَهْدَاهُ لِيَغِيظَ بِذَلِكَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَمَرَّ مِنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى دَارِ أَبِي جَهْلٍ بِمَكَّةَ، وَخَرَجَ فِي أَثَرِهِ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَنْمَةَ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، فَأَبَى سُفَهَاءُ مَكَّةَ أَنْ يُعْطُوهُ حَتَّى أَمَرَهُمْ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بِدَفْعِهِ إِلَيْهِ، قِيلَ: وَدَفَعُوا فِيهِ عِدَّةَ نِيَاقٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - ﷺ «لَوْلَا أَنْ سَمَّيْنَاهُ فِي الْهَدْيِ فَعَلْنَا»
Translation
✧ [The Messenger offered a camel with a silver nose-ring] And the camel of Abū Jahl strayed from the sacrificial animals while it was grazing, and it had been garlanded and marked. It was a noble Mahrian camel with a silver nose-ring on its head; he offered it to enrage the polytheists thereby. It went from al-Ḥudaybiyah until it reached the house of Abū Jahl in Makkah, and ʿAmr b. ʿAnamah b. ʿAdī al-Anṣārī went out in its pursuit. The foolish men of Makkah refused to give it to him until Suhayl b. ʿAmr ordered them to hand it over to him. It was said: And they gave him several she-camels in exchange for it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Had we not designated it among the sacrificial animals, we would have done so."
