Translation

✧ Mention of his ﷺ informing of the death of a great one among the hypocrites, and his informing about the location of his she-camel when it was lost, and of what some of the people of hypocrisy said Muslim narrated from Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh ؓ who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ arrived from a journey. When he was near Madinah, a wind blew that almost buried the rider, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "This wind was sent for the death of a hypocrite." When we entered Madinah, it was announced: "A great one among the great hypocrites has died." Muḥammad b. ʿUmar said: When the people let their mounts loose, a severe wind seized them until the people feared it and said: "This wind has not blown except for something that has happened, and in Madinah are only women and children." There was a truce between the Prophet ﷺ and ʿUyaynah b. Ḥiṣn, and that was when it was ending. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "There is no harm for you in it. There is no breach in Madinah except that an angel guards it, and no enemy was to enter it until you come to it. But today a hypocrite of great hypocrisy died in Madinah, so for that this wind blew fiercely, and his death was a severe rage for the hypocrites. He was Zayd b. Rifāʿah b. al-Tābūt. He died that day; he was a refuge for the hypocrites." Muḥammad b. ʿUmar narrated from Jābir ؓ who said: The wind [on that day] was the strongest it had ever been until the sun declined, then it calmed at the end of the day. The people of Madinah mentioned that they found the same from the severity of the wind until the enemy of God was buried, then the wind calmed. Muḥammad b. ʿUmar said: ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. Jaʿfar narrated to me from his father: ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit said that day to Ibn Ubayy: "O Abū al-Ḥubāb, has your intimate friend died?" He said: "Which intimate friend?" He said: "By his death, it has been opened for Islam and its people." He said: "Who?" He said: "Zayd b. Rifāʿah b. al-Tābūt." He said: "O woe! By God, he was and he was!" Then ʿUbādah said: I sought refuge, by God, in the tailless tail. He said: "Who informed you, O Abū al-Walīd, of his death?" He said: "I said: The Messenger of God ﷺ informed us that he died this hour." Then he was at a loss, and he turned away gloomy, sad.
