Translation
✧ [Kaʿb's Poetry on the Expedition of Banū Liḥyān] The account of the expedition of Banū Liḥyān is from ʿĀṣim b. ʿUmar b. Qatādah, and ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Bakr, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb b. Mālik. Kaʿb b. Mālik said regarding the expedition of Banū Liḥyān: If only Banū Liḥyān had taken counsel, they would have met a band in their abode, one of true sincerity. They would have met a swift company whose terror fills the valley, before a grinding mill, like the galaxy, a mighty host. But they were hyraxes that followed the mountain paths of Ḥijāz, with no place of escape.
