The Expedition of Banu Lihyan
Translation
✧ He ﷺ left Madinah and took the route by Ghurāb, then by Maḥīṣ, then by al-Batrāʾ, then he turned left at Dhāt al-Yasar, and came out at Yīn, then at Ṣukhayrāt al-Thumām, then the road led him straight to al-Sayālah. He quickened the pace until he encamped at Baṭn Ghurān, between which and ʿUsfān there are five miles, where his companions had been struck down. He asked for mercy upon them and supplicated for them. Banū Liḥyān heard of him and fled to the mountaintops, so he could not get hold of any of them. He stayed a day or two, then sent out raiding parties in every direction, but they could not get hold of anyone. When what he wanted eluded him by their being caught unawares, he said: "If we were to descend to ʿUsfān, the people of Makkah would see that we have come to Makkah." So he descended with his companions until they encamped at ʿUsfān. Ibn Isḥāq said: Then he sent two horsemen. Ibn ʿUmar and Ibn Saʿd said: He sent Abū Bakr ؓ with ten horsemen so that Quraysh would hear of him and be terrified. They reached Kurāʿ al-Ghamīm. Then they returned without meeting anyone, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set off returning.
