✧ [The Poetry of al-Aʿshā al-Tamīmī in Mourning the Slain of Banū ʿAbd al-Dār on the Day of Uḥud] And al-Aʿshā b. Zurārah b. al-Nabbāsh al-Tamīmī said—Ibn Hishām said: then one of the Banū Asad b. ʿAmr b. Tamīm—mourning the slain of Banū ʿAbd al-Dār on the day of Uḥud: Greeted be a tribe whose separation grieves me—the Banū Abī Ṭalḥah; it is not averted— Their cupbearer passes among them with it, And every cupbearer of theirs knows them; Their neighbor does not complain, nor their guest— Before them is a gate of theirs that turns away.
