The Expedition of Uḥud
[ صَلَاةُ الرَّسُولِ عَلَى حَمْزَةَ وَالْقَتْلَى ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَحَدَّثَنِي مَنْ لَا أَتَّهِمُ عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِحَمْزَةِ فَسُجِّيَ بِبُرْدَةِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، فَكَبَّرَ سَبْعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِالْقَتْلَى فَيُوضَعُونَ إلَى حَمْزَةَ، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِمْ وَعَلَيْهِ مَعَهُمْ، حَتَّى صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ ثِنْتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ صَلَاةً وَهَذَا غَرِيبٌ وَسَنَدُهُ ضَعِيفٌ. قَالَ السُّهَيْلِيُّ: وَلَمْ يَقُلْ بِهِ أَحَدٌ مِنْ عُلَمَاءِ الْأَمْصَارِ.
Translation
✧ [THE PRAYER OF THE MESSENGER OVER ḤAMZA AND THE SLAIN] Ibn Isḥāq said: And he narrated to me someone I do not suspect, on the authority of Miqsam, the mawlā of ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥārith, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: The Messenger of God ﷺ commanded that Ḥamza be shrouded in a burdah, then he prayed over him, saying seven takbīrs. Then the slain were brought and placed beside Ḥamza, and he prayed over them and over him with them, until he had prayed over him seventy-two prayers. This is strange and its chain is weak. Al-Suhaylī said: None of the scholars of the chief cities held this view.
