The Expedition of Uḥud
وَقَالَ خيثمة أبو سعد ، وَكَانَ ابْنُهُ اسْتُشْهِدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي يَوْمِ بَدْرٍ: ( لَقَدْ أَخْطَأَتْنِي وَقْعَةُ بَدْرٍ، وَكُنْتُ وَاللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا حَرِيصًا، حَتَّى سَاهَمْتُ ابْنِي فِي الْخُرُوجِ، فَخَرَجَ سَهْمُهُ، فَرُزِقَ الشَّهَادَةَ، وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ ابْنِي فِي النَّوْمِ فِي أَحْسَنِ صُورَةٍ يَسْرَحُ فِي ثِمَارِ الْجَنَّةِ وَأَنْهَارِهَا، وَيَقُولُ: الْحَقْ بِنَا تُرَافِقْنَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ، فَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقَّا، وَقَدْ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَصْبَحْتُ مُشْتَاقًا إِلَى مُرَافَقَتِهِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَقَدْ كَبِرَتْ سِنِّي، وَرَقَّ عَظْمِي، وَأَحْبَبْتُ لِقَاءَ رَبِّي، فَادْعُ اللَّهَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَرْزُقَنِي الشَّهَادَةَ، وَمُرَافَقَةَ سعد فِي الْجَنَّةِ، فَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِذَلِكَ، فَقُتِلَ بِأُحُدٍ شَهِيدًا )
Translation
✧ Khaythamah Abū Saʿd—whose son had been martyred with the Messenger of God ﷺ on the day of Badr—said: “The encounter at Badr missed me, though by God I was eager for it, so much so that I cast lots with my son for going out, and his arrow came out, and he was granted martyrdom. Last night I saw my son in a dream in the finest form, roaming among the fruits of the Garden and its rivers, saying: ‘Join us and accompany us in the Garden, for I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.’ By God, O Messenger of God, I have awakened longing to accompany him in the Garden, my age has grown great, my bones have become thin, and I have come to love meeting my Lord. So supplicate God, O Messenger of God, that He grant me martyrdom and companionship with Saʿd in the Garden.” The Messenger of God ﷺ supplicated for him for that, and he was killed at Uḥud as a martyr.
