The Expedition of Uḥud
وَكَانَتْ هَذِهِ الْغَزْوَةُ فِي شَوَّالٍ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ. قَالَهُ الزُّهْرِيُّ، وَقَتَادَةُ، وَمُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، وَمَالِكٌ. قَالَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ: لِلنِّصْفِ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ. وَقَالَ قَتَادَةُ: يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ الْحَادِي عَشَرَ مِنْهُ. قَالَ مَالِكٌ: وَكَانَتِ الْوَقْعَةُ فِي أَوَّلِ النَّهَارِ. وعند ابن الأثير فِي شَوَّالٍ لِسَبْعِ لَيَالٍ خَلَوْنَ مِنْهُ كَانَتْ وَقْعَةُ أُحُدٍ، وَقِيلَ لِلنِّصْفِ مِنْهُ وَفِي الْفَتْحِ أَنَّ الْوَقْعَةَ كَانَتْ لِإِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً خَلَتْ مِنْهُ، وَقِيلَ: لِتِسْعِ لَيَالٍ، وَقِيلَ: لِثَمَانٍ، وَقِيلَ: لِسَبْعٍ.، وَشَذَّ مَنْ قَالَ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ
Translation
✧ And this expedition took place in Shawwāl of the year three. Al-Zuhrī, Qatādah, Mūsá b. ʿUqbah, Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, and Mālik said that. Ibn Isḥāq said: In the middle of Shawwāl. Qatādah said: On Saturday, the eleventh of it. Mālik said: The battle was at the beginning of the day. According to Ibn al-Athīr: In Shawwāl, after seven nights had passed, the Battle of Uḥud took place; and it was also said: in the middle of it. In al-Fatḥ, it is stated that the battle took place after eleven nights had passed; and it was also said: after nine nights; and it was also said: after eight; and it was also said: after seven. And the one who said it was in the year four is anomalous.
