The Conversion of Ḥuwayyiṣa b. Masʿūd and Its Cause
إِسْلَامُ حُوَيِّصَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَبَبُ إِسْلَامِهِ لَمَّا قُتِلَ كَعْبُ بْنُ الْأَشْرَفِ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَنْ ظَفَرْتُمْ بِهِ مِنْ رِجَالِ يَهُودَ فَاقْتُلُوهُ فَوَثَبَ مُحَيِّصَةَ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ كَانَ يُعَامِلُهُ اسْمُهُ ابْنُ سَنِينَةَ فَقَتَلَهُ فَجَعَلَ أَخُوهُ حُوَيِّصَةُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ - وَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَسْلَمَ - يَضْرِبُهُ وَيُعَاتِبُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُحَيِّصَةُ إِنَّهُ أَمَرَنِي مَنْ لَوْ أَمَرَنِي بِقَتْلِكَ لَضَرَبْتُ عُنُقَكَ، فَقَالَ حُوَيِّصَةُ حِينَئِذٍ: فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ دِينًا بَلَغَ بِكَ هَذَا لَعَجَبٌ فَأَسْلَمَ حُوَيِّصَةُ
Translation
✧ The Conversion of Ḥuwayyiṣa b. Masʿūd and Its Cause When Kaʿb b. al-Ashraf was killed, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whomever you seize of the men of the Jews, kill him." So Muḥayyiṣa b. Masʿūd leaped upon a man of the Jews with whom he had dealings, whose name was Ibn Sunayna, and killed him. Then his brother Ḥuwayyiṣa b. Masʿūd—who had not yet become a Muslim—began to strike him and reproach him. Muḥayyiṣa said to him: "He who commanded me, if he commanded me to kill you, I would strike your neck." Ḥuwayyiṣa said then: "By God, a religion that has brought you to this is indeed a wonder." So Ḥuwayyiṣa became a Muslim.
