The Detachment of Muḥammad b. Maslama ᴿᴬ against the Jew Kaʿb b. al-Ashraf
[ شِعْرُ حَسَّانَ فِي مُقْتَلِ ابْنِ الْأَشْرَفِ وَابْنِ أَبِي الْحُقَيْقِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَقَالَ حَسَّانُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ يَذْكُرُ قَتْلَ كَعْبِ بْنِ الْأَشْرَفِ وَقَتْلَ سَلَّامِ بْنِ أَبِي الْحُقَيْقِ: لِلَّهِ دَرُّ عِصَابَةٍ لَاقَيْتهمْ يَا ابْنَ الْحُقَيْقِ وَأَنْتَ يَا ابْنَ الْأَشْرَفِ يَسْرُونَ بِالْبِيضِ الْخِفَافِ إلَيْكُمْ مَرَحًا كَأُسْدٍ فِي عَرِينٍ مُغْرِفِ حَتَّى أَتَوْكُمْ فِي مَحِلِّ بِلَادِكُمْ فَسَقَوْكُمْ حَتْفًا بِبِيضٍ ذُفَّفِ مُسْتَنْصِرِينَ لِنَصْرِ دِينِ نَبِيِّهِمْ مُسْتَصْغَرِينَ لِكُلِّ أَمْرٍ مُجْحِفِ
Translation
✧ [Poetry of Ḥassān on the Killing of Ibn al-Ashraf and Ibn Abī al-Ḥuqayq] Ibn Isḥāq said: Ḥassān b. Thābit said, mentioning the killing of Kaʿb b. al-Ashraf and the killing of Sallām b. Abī al-Ḥuqayq: For God is the worth of a band you met, O son of al-Ḥuqayq, and you, O son of al-Ashraf; they journey by night to you with the white, light swords, Joyously, like lions in a thicket of a lair; until they came to you in the place of your lands, and they gave you to drink death with white, sharp swords; seeking help for the victory of the religion of their Prophet, deeming small every burdensome matter.
