The Expedition of al-Sawīq
Translation
✧ [The reason for naming it the Expedition of al-Sawīq] Ibn Hishām said: It was only named the Expedition of al-Sawīq, according to what Abū ʿUbaydah narrated to me, because most of what the people threw away from their provisions was sawīq (barley meal), seeking to lighten their loads. The Muslims then came upon a great quantity of sawīq, so it was named the Expedition of al-Sawīq.
