Translation

✧ His return, ﷺ, from Badr to Madinah, and what occurred during his journey to it, supported and victorious—upon him from his Lord be the best blessings and peace. It is established in the "Two Ṣaḥīḥs" that when he appeared victorious over a people, he would stay at the open ground for three days. And he, peace and blessings be upon him, stayed at the open ground of Badr for three days. His departure from it was on Monday night, riding his she-camel. [The return of the Messenger of Allah from Badr] Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out returning to Madinah, and with him were the captives from the polytheists, among them ʿUqbah b. Abī Muʿayṭ and al-Naḍr b. al-Ḥārith. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried with him the spoils that had been taken from the polytheists, and he placed ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb b. ʿAmr b. ʿAwf b. Mabdhūl b. ʿAmr b. Ghanm b. Māzin b. al-Najjār in charge of the spoils. A poet from the Muslims recited—Ibn Hishām said: it is said that he was ʿAdī b. Abī al-Zaghbāʾ: : Make their chests stand, O Basbas! It has no resting place among the ṭalḥ trees, Nor is it detained in the desert of Ghumayr. The riding camels of the people are not to be held back; Loading them upon the road is wiser. God has granted victory, and al-Akhnas has fled. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded until, when he emerged from the narrow pass of al-Ṣafrāʾ, he alighted at a sand hill between the narrow pass and al-Nāziyah—called Sayr—near a lotus tree there. There he divided the spoils that God had granted the Muslims from the polytheists equally among them. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed, and when he was at al-Rawḥāʾ, the Muslims met him congratulating him on the victory God had granted him and those with him among the Muslims. Salamah b. Salāmah said to them—as ʿĀṣim b. ʿUmar b. Qatādah and Yazīd b. Rūmān narrated to me: "What is this for which you congratulate us? By God, we encountered none but bald old women like tethered sacrificial camels, and we slaughtered them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: "O son of my brother, those were the chiefs." Ibn Hishām said: al-malaʾ means the nobles and leaders.
