حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ ثنا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ حَدَّثَنِي عَوْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ
أَخَذَ بِيَدِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ فَعَدَّ فِيهَا التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ أَخَذْتُ بِيَدِكَ كَمَا أَخَذَ بِيَدِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَخَذْتُ بِيَدِكَ كَمَا أَخَذَ بِيَدِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَعَدَّ فِيهَا التَّشَهُّدَ التَّحِيَّاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ الزَّاكِيَاتُ لِلَّهِ

✧ Abdullah b. Abbas took me by the hand and counted the tashahhud on my fingers, saying: I am taking your hand just as Umar b. al-Khattab took mine. And Umar said: I am taking your hand just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took mine. Then he counted the tashahhud: "Greetings, prayers, good things, and pure words are due to Allah."

رواه ابن لهيعة عن جعفر بن ربيعة عن يعقوب بن الأشج عن عون بن عبد الله عن ابن عباس عن عمر عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أسنده الوليد بن مسلم وعبد الله بن يوسف التنيسي عن ابن لهيعة ولا نعلم رفعه عن عمر عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم غيره والمحفوظ ما رواه عروة عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد القاري أن عمر كان يعلم الناس التشهد من قوله غير مرفوع والله أعلم
machine translationIbn Lahīʿah narrated it from Jaʿfar b. Rabīʿah, from Yaʿqūb b. al-Ashajj, from ʿAwn b. ʿAbdullāh, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Walīd b. Muslim and ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf al-Tinnīsī traced it back (asnadahu) from Ibn Lahīʿah. We do not know of anyone other than him who raised it (marfūʿ) from ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ. The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is what ʿUrwah narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAbd al-Qārī, that ʿUmar used to teach the people the tashahhud, as his own statement, not raised to the Prophet (ghayr marfūʿ). And Allah knows best.
