✧ We conversed one night in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and spoke at length. He said: Then we returned to our houses. When morning came, we went to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "The prophets were presented to me tonight with their followers from their communities. A prophet would come with three of his people, a prophet with a band, a prophet with a small group, and a prophet with no one from his people, until Moses b. ʿImrān came to me in a large crowd of the Children of Israel. When I saw them, they impressed me, and I said: 'O Lord, who are these?' He said: 'This is your brother Moses b. ʿImrān and those who followed him from the Children of Israel.' He said: I said: 'O Lord, where is my community?' It was said to me: 'Look to your right.' And behold, the hills—the hills of Makkah—were blackened with the faces of men. I said: 'O Lord, who are these?' He said: 'Your community.' He said: It was said to me: 'Are you pleased?' I said: 'O Lord, I am pleased.' He said: Then it was said to me: 'Indeed, with these are seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning.' He said: ʿUkkāsha b. Miḥṣan, the brother of Banū Asad b. Khuzayma, stood up and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, supplicate your Lord to make me one of them.' He said: 'O Allah, make him one of them.' Then another man stood up and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, supplicate your Lord to make me one of them.' He said: 'ʿUkkāsha has preceded you to it.' He said: Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: 'May my father and mother be your ransom. If you are able to be among the seventy, then be so. If you are unable and fall short, then be among the people of the hills. If you are unable and fall short, then be among the people of the horizon, for I saw there many people jostling.' He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, I hope that those who follow me from my community will be a quarter of the people of Paradise.' He said: We said 'Allāhu akbar.' Then he said: 'Indeed, I hope that you will be a third.' We said 'Allāhu akbar.' Then he said: 'Indeed, I hope that you will be half.' We said 'Allāhu akbar.' He said: Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ recited: {A multitude from the former generations and a multitude from the later generations} [al-Wāqiʿa 40]. He said: The Muslims went back to discussing these seventy, and they said: 'We think they are people who were born in Islam and continued acting upon it until they died upon it.' Their talk reached the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and he said: 'It is not so; rather, they are those who do not seek ruqya, do not cauterize, do not take omens, and upon their Lord they rely.'"
