مَا حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمُزَكِّي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثنا الْمُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْيَشْكُرِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ وَكَانَ يَسْكُنُ إِيلِيَاءَ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الصُّبْحَ فَثَقُلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْقِرَاءَةُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ «إِنِّي لَأَرَاكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ إِمَامِكُمْ» قُلْنَا أَجَلْ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا قَالَ «فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَا يَقْرَؤُهَا» «وَقَدْ أَدْخَلَ مَحْمُودُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ عُبَادَةَ وَهْبَ بْنَ كَيْسَانَ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Subh and the recitation became heavy upon him. When he finished, he said: "I see you reciting behind your imam." We said: "Yes, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, this." He said: "Do not do so except with Umm al-Qur'an, for there is no prayer for one who does not recite it." Mahmud b. al-Rabi' inserted Wahb b. Kaysan between him and Ubadah.
