✧ From the hadith of 'Amr al-Hadrami of the people of Homs, from Abu Umamah al-Bahili, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us one day, and most of his sermon was mention of the Dajjal, telling us about him until he finished his sermon. Among what he said to us that day: Allah Almighty did not send a prophet except that he warned his nation about the Dajjal. I am the last of the prophets, and you are the last of the nations, and he will inevitably emerge among you. If he emerges while I am among you, I will be the adversary of every Muslim. If he emerges among you after me, then every person is his own adversary, and Allah is my successor over every Muslim. He will emerge from a gap between Iraq and Syria, causing corruption right and left. O servants of Allah, stand firm. He will begin by saying: I am a prophet, though there is no prophet after me. Then he will go on until he says: I am your Lord, though you will not see your Lord until you die. Written between his eyes is 'kafir,' which every believer reads. Whoever of you meets him, let him spit in his face and recite the openings of Surat al-Kahf. He will be given power over one soul of the children of Adam; he will kill it and then bring it back to life. He will not go beyond that, and he will not be given power over any other soul. Part of his tribulation is that with him is a garden and a fire: his fire is a garden, and his garden is a fire. Whoever is tested with his fire, let him close his eyes and seek help from Allah; it will become coolness and safety for him, as the fire became coolness and safety for Abraham ﷺ. Part of his tribulation is that he will pass by a tribe, and they will believe in him and affirm him, so he will pray for them, and the sky will rain upon them from that day, the earth will become fertile for them from that day, and their livestock will return to them in the evening from that day, greater than they were, fatter, fuller in flanks, and more abundant in milk. He will pass by a tribe, and they will disbelieve in him and deny him, so he will pray against them, and no grazing animal will go out for them. His days are forty: a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week, and a day like the (ordinary) days. The last of his days is like a mirage: a man will be at the gate of Madinah in the morning and reach its other gate before evening. They said: How should we pray, O Messenger of Allah, in those short days? He said: “Estimate them, then pray as you estimate in the long days.”
