فَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّعْدِيُّ ثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ثَنَا عَوْفٌ ثَنَا أَبُو الصِّدِّيقِ قَالَ
لَمَّا ظَفَرَ الْحَجَّاجُ عَلَى ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَقَتَلَهُ وَمَثَّلَ بِهِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ عَلَى أُمِّ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهِيَ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَتْ كَيْفَ تَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَيَّ وَقَدْ قَتَلْتَ ابْنِي؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ابْنَكِ أَلْحَدَ فِي حَرَمِ اللَّهِ فَقَتَلْتُهُ مُلْحِدًا عَاصِيًا حَتَّى أَذَاقَهُ اللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا وَفَعَلَ بِهِ وَفَعَلَ فَقَالَتْ كَذَبْتَ يَا عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ قَتَلْتَهُ صَوَّامًا قَوَّامًا بَرًّا بِوَالِدَيْهِ حَافِظًا لِهَذَا الدِّينِ وَلَئِنْ أَفْسَدَتْ عَلَيْهِ دُنْيَاهُ لَقَدْ أَفْسَدَ عَلَيْكَ آخِرَتَكَ وَلَقَدْ
Translation

✧ When al-Hajjaj prevailed over Ibn al-Zubayr, killed him, and mutilated him, then he entered upon the mother of ʿAbd Allah, who was Asma’ bt. Abi Bakr. She said, “How do you seek permission to enter upon me when you have killed my son?” He said, “Your son violated the sanctity of Allah’s sanctuary, so I killed him as a heretic and a disobedient one, until Allah made him taste a painful punishment, and I did such-and-such to him.” She said, “You lie, O enemy of Allah and enemy of the Muslims. By Allah, you killed him while he was one who fasted much, prayed much, was dutiful to his parents, and upheld this religion. If you ruined his worldly life, he has ruined your hereafter. And indeed...”
