✧ He stayed with 'Abd Allah b. Hawalah al-Azdi. He said to me, while he was staying in my house: 'May your mother be bereft of you! Is it not enough for Ibn Hawalah that a hundred flows to him every year?' Then he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us around Madinah on foot to raid. We returned having gained nothing, and hardship was visible on our faces. He stood among us as a preacher and said: "O Allah, do not entrust them to me, lest I be too weak for them; do not entrust them to themselves, lest they fail; and do not entrust them to people, lest they prefer themselves over them." It is authentic.
