✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to them while clusters of dates were hanging, and one cluster had bad dates. He had a stick. He poked the cluster with the stick and said: 'If the Lord of this charity had willed, he would have given in charity something better than it. The owner of this charity will eat bad dates on the Day of Resurrection.' Then he turned to us and said: 'By Allah, O people of Madinah, you will leave it tamed for forty years for the 'awafi.' We said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do you know what the 'awafi are?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'Birds and beasts.'
