حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزَّاهِدُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ
وَسُئِلَ هَلْ رَأَيْتَ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُهُ أَبْيَضَ الرَّأْسِ وَاللِّحْيَةِ قِيلَ فَهَلْ تَذْكُرُ عَنْهُ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَذْكُرُ أَنَّهُ جَلْدَ شُرَاحَةَ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ وَرَجَمَهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ «جَلَدْتُهَا بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَرَجَمْتُهَا بِسُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ» وَهَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي الْإِسْنَادِ الْأَوَّلِ الْخِلَافُ فِي سَمَاعِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ مِنْ أَبِيهِ صحيح

✧ He was asked, "Did you see the Commander of the Believers, Ali b. Abi Talib?" He said, "I saw him, white of head and beard." It was said, "Do you remember anything from him?" He said, "Yes, I remember that he flogged Shuraha on Thursday and stoned her on Friday, and he said, 'I flogged her according to the Book of God, and I stoned her according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of God ﷺ.'" This is a sound chain, though in the first chain there is disagreement about Abd al-Rahman b. Abdullah b. Mas'ud's hearing from his father. Sahih.

machine translationShuʿbah narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Qaʿnab b. Muḥriz narrated it from Wahb b. Jarīr, from Shuʿbah, from Salamah b. Kuhayl, from Mujālid, from al-Shaʿbī, from his father, from ʿAlī, and he erred in two places: in his saying "from Mujālid", when it is really Salamah and Mujālid; and in his saying "from al-Shaʿbī, from his father", when al-Shaʿbī narrated it from ʿAlī. Likewise al-Ḥusayn al-Marwadhī and others narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Salamah and Mujālid, from al-Shaʿbī, that the two of them heard him narrating from ʿAlī. ʿIṣām b. Yūsuf narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Salamah, from al-Shaʿbī, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from ʿAlī. Ghundar contradicted him, narrating it from Shuʿbah, from Salamah, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAlī, and this is the correct one; he mentioned that. Likewise Ismāʿīl b. Sālim and Ḥuṣayn narrated it from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAlī. I said: Did al-Shaʿbī hear from ʿAlī? The Shaykh said: He heard one phrase from him; he heard nothing other than this.
