✧ I entered upon Zaynab, the wife of 'Abdullah, to treat her for a hot spot that had appeared on her face, while she was wearing a charm. As I was sitting, 'Abdullah entered. When he saw the charm, he went to a beam that was propped in the house, placed his cloak on it, then rolled up his sleeves, came to her, took hold of the charm, and pulled it until her face almost fell to the ground. Then it broke, and he left the house, saying: "The family of 'Abdullah has become free of need from shirk." Then he went out and threw it behind the wall. Then he said: "O Zaynab, would you hang charms at my place? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'He forbade ruqyah, amulets, and tawliyah.'" Umm Najiyah said: "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, we know ruqyah and amulets; what is tawliyah?" He said: "Tawliyah is what arouses women."
