حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَصْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْفَقِيهُ بِبُخَارَى ثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ الْحَافِظُ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ قَالَا ثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ تَقُولُ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي مِيرَاثٍ بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَيْسَ لِوَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا بَيِّنَةٌ وَقَالَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ حَقِّي هَذَا الَّذِي طَلَبْتُهُ مِنْ فُلَانٍ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنِ اذْهَبَا فَتَوَخَّيَا ثُمَّ اسْتَهِمَا ثُمَّ اقْتَسِمَا ثُمَّ لِيُحْلِلْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمَا صَاحِبَهُ»

✧ I heard Umm Salamah say: I was with the Prophet ﷺ when two men came to him disputing over an inheritance between them, and neither of them had any proof. Each of them said to the other, 'O Messenger of Allah, this is my right that I sought from so-and-so.' He said, 'No, but go and seek what is right, then cast lots, then divide it, then let each of you absolve the other.'
