✧ "The leaders are from Quraysh. Its righteous are leaders over its righteous, and its wicked are leaders over its wicked. Each has a right, so give every rightful person his due. Even if I appoint over you an Ethiopian slave with mutilated nose and ears, listen to him and obey, as long as one of you is not given a choice between his Islam and the striking of his neck. If he is given a choice between his Islam and the striking of his neck, let him offer his neck, for there is no worldly life or Hereafter for him after his Islam."

machine translationMisʿar narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Fayḍ b. al-Faḍl raised it (to the Prophet) from Misʿar, from Salamah b. Kuhayl, from Abū Ṣādiq, from Rabīʿah b. Nājid, from ʿAlī, from the Prophet ﷺ. Dāwūd b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār differed from him and narrated it from Misʿar, from ʿUthmān b. al-Mughīrah, from Abū Ṣādiq, and he also raised it. Others besides them narrate it from Misʿar as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). Likewise Abū ʿAwānah narrated it from ʿUthmān b. al-Mughīrah as mawqūf. The mawqūf report is closer to being correct.
