✧ A man from Banu Zuhra met Umar before he embraced Islam, while Umar was girded with a sword. He said: Where are you heading? Umar said: I want to kill Muhammad. He said: Shall I not point you to something astonishing, O Umar? Your brother-in-law Sa'id and your sister have apostatized and left the religion they were upon. Umar walked to them in anger, and when he approached the door, there was a man with them called Khabbab who was teaching them Surah Ta-Ha. When Khabbab heard Umar's footsteps, he hid under a bed of theirs. Umar entered and said: What is this murmuring I heard from you two? They said: Nothing but a conversation we had between ourselves. He said: Perhaps you two have apostatized and left the religion you were upon. His brother-in-law Sa'id b. Zayd said to him: O Umar, tell me, if the truth were in other than your religion? Umar turned to his brother-in-law and trampled him severely. His sister pushed him away from her husband, and he struck her face, making it bleed. She said, while angry: O Umar, tell me, if the truth were in other than your religion? I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. When Umar despaired, he said: Give me this book that you have so I may read it. His sister said: You are impure, and none but the purified may touch it. Get up and perform ghusl or wudu.
