✧ Mentioning the daughters of Abd al-Muttalib, the maternal aunts of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, along with his cousins. Among them is his aunt Safiyyah bt. Abd al-Muttalib, the sister of Hamzah, and the mother of Zubayr b. al-Awwam, ᴿᴬ .

حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ

عُرْوَةُ وَسَمِعْتُهَا تَقُولُ «أَنَا أَوَّلُ امْرَأَةٍ قَتَلَتْ رَجُلًا كُنْتُ فِي فَارِعٍ حِصْنِ حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ وَكَانَ حَسَّانُ مَعَنَا فِي النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ حِينَ خَنْدَقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ» قَالَتْ صَفِيَّةُ فَمَرَّ بِنَا رَجُلٌ مَنْ يهُودَ فَجَعَلَ يُطِيفُ بِالْحِصْنِ فَقُلْتُ لِحَسَّانَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْيَهُودِيَّ بِالْحِصْنِ كَمَا تَرَى وَلَا آمَنُهُ أَنْ يَدُلَّ عَلَى عَوْرَاتِنَا وَقَدْ شُغِلَ عَنَّا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ فَقُمْ إِلَيْهِ فَاقْتُلْهُ فَقَالَ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكِ يَا بِنْتَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَرَفْتِ مَا أَنَا بِصَاحِبِ هَذَا قَالَتْ صَفِيَّةُ فَلَمَّا قَالَ ذَلِكَ وَلَمْ أَرَ عِنْدَهُ شَيْئًا احْتَجَزْتُ وَأَخَذْتُ عَمُودًا مِنَ الْحِصْنِ ثُمَّ نَزَلْتُ مِنَ الْحِصْنِ إِلَيْهِ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِالْعَمُودِ حَتَّى قَتَلْتُهُ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى الْحِصْنِ فَقُلْتُ يَا حَسَّانُ انْزِلْ فَاسْتَلِبْهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَسْلُبَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ مَا لِي بِسَلَبِهِ مِنْ حَاجَةٍ

✧ Urwah said: I heard her say, "I was the first woman to kill a man. I was in Fari', the fortress of Hassan b. Thabit, and Hassan was with us among the women and children when the Prophet ﷺ dug the Trench." Safiyyah said, "A man from the Jews passed by us and began to circle the fortress. I said to Hassan, 'This Jew is at the fortress as you see, and I do not trust that he will point out our vulnerable spots. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions are occupied away from us. So get up to him and kill him.' He said, 'May Allah forgive you, O daughter of Abd al-Muttalib. By Allah, you know that I am not a man for this.'" Safiyyah said, "When he said that and I saw nothing with him, I girded myself, took a post from the fortress, then descended from the fortress to him and struck him with the post until I killed him. Then I returned to the fortress and said, 'O Hassan, go down and strip him, for nothing prevented me from stripping him except that he is a man.' He said, 'I have no need of his spoils.'"
